Avaliação da técnica de coloração AgNOR em testículos de ovinos Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Chacur,M.G.M.; Ibrahim,D.B.; Arrebola,T.A.H.; Sanches,O.C.; Giuffrida,R.; Oba,E.; Ramos,A.A..

Chromosomal differentiation in Kerodon rupestris (rodentia: caviidae) from the brazilian semi-arid region Mastozool. neotrop.
Lessa,Gisele; Corrêa,Margaret M. O; Pessôa,Leila M; Zappes,Ighor A.
Kerodon rupestris (Wied, 1820) is the most specialized species among caviid rodents and is endemic to the extensive rocky outcrops in the semi-arid region in Brazil. Herein we describe different karyotypes for K. rupestris, based on samples collected in Itapajé, Ceará (CE), Iraquara in Bahia (BA), and Botumirim in Minas Gerais (MG). Our samples included northern, center and southern populations in the range of the species distribution. The results were compared with a karyotype from Pernambuco previously described for the species. The diploid number (2n = 52) was constant among the analyzed population samples, but the fundamental number (FN) varied from 92 in Itapajé (CE) and Iraquara (BA), to 94 in Botumirim (MG). Pericentric inversions affecting one...

Chromosomal location of 18S and 5S rDNA sites in Triportheus fish species (Characiformes, Characidae) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Diniz,Débora; Laudicina,Alejandro; Bertollo,Luiz Antonio Carlos.
The location of 18S and 5S rDNA sites was determined in eight species and populations of the fish genus Triportheus by using fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH). The males and females of all species had 2n = 52 chromosomes and a ZZ/ZW sex chromosome system. A single 18S rDNA site that was roughly equivalent to an Ag-NOR was detected on the short arms of a submetacentric pair in nearly all species, and up to two additional sites were also observed in some species. In addition, another 18S rDNA cluster was identified in a distal region on the long arms of the W chromosome; this finding corroborated previous evidence that this cluster would be a shared feature amongst Triportheus species. In T. angulatus, a heterozygotic paracentric inversion involving...

Chromosome polymorphism in Ancistrus cuiabae Knaack, 1999 (Siluriformes: Loricariidae: Ancistrini) Neotropical Ichthyology
Mariotto,Sandra; Centofante,Liano; Miyazawa,Carlos S.; Bertollo,Luiz Antonio Carlos; Moreira Filho,Orlando.
Cytogenetic and FISH analyses were performed in 30 Ancistrus cuiabae specimens from a bay near the town of Poconé, in the Pantanal of Mato Grosso, Brazil. The observed diploid number was 2n = 34 chromosomes for both sexes and three distinct katyotypic formulae were found, namely cytotype A (20m, 8sm, 6st, Fundamental Number/FN = 68; 6 males and 11 females), cytotype B (19m, 8sm, 6st, 1a, FN = 67; 8 males and 4 females) and cytotype C (18m, 8sm, 6st, 2a, FN = 66; a single male). NORs's analyses showed that these regions were located in distinct sites on the NOR-bearing chromosome pair, according to cytotypes. Thus, in cytotype A, NORs were located in the terminal region of the short arm of the second metacentric chromosome pair; in cytotype B, they were...

Comparative cytogenetic analysis between Lonchorhina aurita and Trachops cirrhosus (Chiroptera, Phyllostomidae) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Barros,Helen Maria Duarte do Rêgo; Sotero-Caio,Cibele Gomes de; Santos,Neide; Souza,Maria José de.
Phyllostomidae comprises the most diverse family of neotropical bats, its wide range of morphological features leading to uncertainty regarding phylogenetic relationships. Seeing that cytogenetics is one of the fields capable of providing support for currently adopted classifications through the use of several markers, a comparative analysis between two Phyllostomidae species was undertaken in the present study, with a view to supplying datasets for the further establishment of Phyllostomidae evolutionary relationships. Karyotypes of Lonchorhina aurita (2n = 32; FN = 60) and Trachops cirrhosus (2n = 30; FN = 56) were analyzed by G- and C-banding, silver nitrate staining (Ag-NOR) and base-specific fluorochromes. Chromosomal data obtained for both species...

Cytogenetic analysis of five Hypostomus species (Siluriformes, Loricariidae) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Martinez,Emanuel Ricardo Monteiro; Zawadzki,Claudio Henrique; Foresti,Fausto; Oliveira,Claudio.
In this work, we analyzed the karyotypes of five species. Hypostomus cf. heraldoi, from the Mogi-Guaçu River, had 2n = 72 chromosomes, with a nucleolar organizer region (NOR) in one chromosomal pair. Hypostomus regani, from the Mogi-Guaçu River had 2n = 72 chromosomes with NORs in two chromosomal pairs. Hypostomus sp., from the Mogi-Guaçu River basin, had 2n = 68 chromosomes, with NORs in two chromosomal pairs. Hypostomus aff. agna, from Cavalo Stream, had 2n = 74 chromosomes with NORs in two chromosomal pairs. Hypostomus cf. topavae, from Carrapato Stream, had 2n = 80 chromosomes, with NORs in two chromosomal pairs. Hypostomus species showed marked diversity in the karyotypic formula, which suggested the occurrence of several Robertsonian rearrangements...

Cytogenetic analysis of five species of the subfamily Corydoradinae (Teleostei: Siluriformes: Callichthyidae) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Shimabukuro-Dias,Cristiane Kioko; Oliveira,Claudio; Foresti,Fausto.
In the present study, five callichthyid species belonging to the subfamily Corydoradinae were karyotyped: three species of Aspidoras and two of Corydoras. The three species of Aspidoras had the same diploid number, 2n = 46 chromosomes, similar karyotypic formulae, with most chromosomes metacentric or submetacentric, single interstitial Ag-NORs and C-band positive segments mainly found in the centromeric position. The comparative analysis of cytogenetic data available for the genus Aspidoras and other species of Corydoradinae suggest that several events of centric fusion occurred in the origin of the species of Aspidoras. The two analyzed species of Corydoras showed high diploid numbers, 2n = 74 in C. sodalis and 2n = 90 in C. britskii. While C. sodalis...

Cytogenetic and morphological diversity in populations of Astyanax fasciatus (Teleostei, Characidae) from Brazilian northeastern river basins Genet. Mol. Biol.
Medrado,Aline Souza; Figueiredo,Alba Vivian Amaral; Waldschmidt,Ana Maria; Affonso,Paulo Roberto Antunes de Mello; Carneiro,Paulo Luiz Souza.
In the present work, morphometric and cytogenetic analyses were carried out in populations of the fish Astyanax fasciatus (Characidae) from Contas and Recôncavo Sul River basins (State of Bahia, Brazil), providing new data on the genetic structure of this species along the region. Based on morphologic measurements, we observed that populations from the same hydrographic basin were more similar to each other (Contas and Preto do Costa Rivers), and remarkably divergent from Recôncavo Sul (Mineiro Stream), as indicated by clustering analysis. Cytogenetic data revealed a same diploid number for all populations (2n = 48), but distinct karyotype formulae (8M+24SM+12ST+4A, FN = 92 in Contas River, 8M+24SM+10ST+6A, FN = 90 in Preto do Costa River, and...

Cytogenetic data on Astyanax jacuhiensis (Characidae) in the lago Guaíba and tributaries, Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology
Pacheco,Rosiley B.; Giuliano-Caetano,Lucia; Julio Junior,Horácio F.; Dias,Ana L..
Cytogenetic analyses were performed in Astyanax jacuhiensis from lago Guaíba, Brazil. The diploid number was 50, with a karyotype composed of 8m+30sm+4st+8a chromosomes, FN = 92. The AgNORs were observed in 2 to 5 chromosomes, with intra- and interindividual variation. The sm pair 8 observed always carried NORs on the short arms, presenting size heteromorphism between homologous. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) with an 18S rDNA probe only confirmed the location of ribosomal cistrons in the sm pair 8, and heteromorphism of these regions between the homologous chromosomes. C-banding revealed the occurrence of weak C-positive heterochromatin in the pericentromeric regions of several chromosomes, in addition to more evident bands interstitially...

Cytogenetic study of two species of the family Pimelodidae (Siluriformes) collected in lago Guaíba, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology
Treco,Fernando Rodrigo; Malabarba,Luiz R.; Giuliano-Caetano,Lucia; Dias,Ana Lúcia.
A cytogenetic study was conducted on specimens of Parapimelodus nigribarbis and Pimelodus maculatus collected in the lago Guaíba drainage, Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The two species had a diploid number of 56 chromosomes, with P. nigribarbis showing a karyotype of 20m + 20sm + 4st + 12a with FN of 100, and P. maculatus showing a karyotype of 24m + 20sm + 6st + 6a with FN of 106. NORs were demonstrated in both species in only one pair of subtelocentric chromosomes, in the terminal region of the long arm, which was coincident with C- banding and CMA3 staining, while DAPI staining was negative in these regions. Parapimelodus nigribarbis had a greater number of heterochromatic bands than did P. maculatus, which were distributed mainly in the...

Effects of chondroitin sulfate and sodium hyaluronate on chondrocytes and extracellular matrix of articular cartilage in dogs with degenerative joint disease Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Gonçalves,G.; Melo,E.G.; Gomes,M.G.; Nunes,V.A.; Rezende,C.M.F..
Samples of articular cartilage of femur, tibia and patella of 15 dogs with experimentally induced degenerative joint disease (DJD) were microscopically analyzed. Animals were distributed into three groups (n=5): the control group received no medication; the second group was treated with chondroitin sulfate and the third received sodium hyaluronate. Samples were processed and stained with HE and toluidine blue for morphological evaluation. The metabolic and proliferative activity of the chondrocytes was evaluated by the measurement of nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) after impregnation by silver nitrate. Significant differences were not observed (P>0.05) in the morphology among the groups, however, the group treated with sodium hyaluronate had a higher...

High levels of chromosomal differentiation in Euchroma gigantea L. 1735 (Coleoptera, Buprestidae) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Moura,Rita de Cássia de; Melo,Natoniel Franklin de; Souza,Maria José de.
Euchroma gigantea was karyotypically studied using conventional staining, C-banding, silver nitrate staining and ribosomal fluorescent in situ hybridization (rDNA FISH). Broad wide autosomal polymorphism and a complex sex determination system were found in this beetle. Karyotype complements ranging from 2n = 32, X1X2X3Y1Y2Y3 to 2n = 36,X1X2X3Y1Y2Y3 were detected in the sample analyzed. Punctiform supernumerary chromosomes were present in the different karyotypes. The karyotypic evolution of Brazilian E. gigantea may have taken two directions, reduction in the diploid number of 2n = 36 to 24 through centric fusions or 2n = 24 to 36 due to chromosomal fissions. In addition, pericentric inversions were also involved. The complex multiple sex mechanism of this...

Karyotype characterization, constitutive heterochromatin and nucleolus organizer regions of Paranaita opima (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae, Alticinae) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Almeida,Mara Cristina de; Campaner,Carlos; Cella,Doralice Maria.
Species of the subtribe Oedionychina not only have a highly uniform diploid number of 2n = 22 (20+X+y) but have the karyotypic peculiarity of possessing extremely large sex chromosomes. We analyzed Paranaita opima embryos and gonadal cells to determine their diploid number, chromosomal morphology, type of sex determination system, constitutive heterochromatin pattern and which chromosomes bear nucleolus organizer regions (NORs). The diploid number of P. opima was 2n = 22 (20+XY/XX) with all chromosomes being metacentric. Chromosome pair 6 showed an interstitial secondary constriction on the short arm. The C-banding technique revealed centromeric constitutive heterochromatin in all chromosomes, which, in pair 6, extended up to the secondary constriction of...

Karyotype description and evidence of multiple sex chromosome system X1X1X2X2/X1X2Y in Potamotrygon aff. motoro and P. falkneri (Chondrichthyes: Potamotrygonidae) in the upper Paraná River basin, Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology
Cruz,Vanessa Paes da; Shimabukuro-Dias,Cristiane Kioko; Oliveira,Claudio; Foresti,Fausto.
Cytogenetic analysis of Potamotrygon aff. motoro and P. falkneri indicated the occurrence of an X1X1X2X2/X1X2 Y multiple sex chromosome system in both species, with 2n = 66 chromosomes for females and 2n = 65 chromosomes for males. The nucleolus organizer regions (NORs) identified using Ag-NOR technique showed that both species have multiple Ag-NORs (5 to 7 chromosomes stained). C-banding technique indicated the presence of heterochromatic blocks in the centromeric regions of almost all chromosomes in both species. Through this study there was evidence of heterogeneity in the karyotypes, which suggests that chromosomal rearrangements such as inversions and/or translocations occurred during the chromosomal evolution in two species of this genus.

Polytypic and polymorphic cytogenetic variations in the widespread anuran Physalaemus cuvieri (Anura, Leiuperidae) with emphasis on nucleolar organizing regions Biol. Res.
QUINDERÉ,YEDA R. S. D; LOURENÇO,LUCIANA B; ANDRADE,GILDA V; TOMATIS,CRISTIAN; BALDO,DIEGO; RECCO-PIMENTEL,SHIRLEI M.
We investigated the NOR distribution in ten populations of Physalaemus cuvieri from different regions of Brazil and Argentina. A high variability in NOR pattern was observed and provided a useful tool in grouping several populations. The specimens from the state of Tocantins, northern Brazil, could easily be distinguished from all the other analyzed populations, since its karyotype presented NORs in the chromosome pairs 1,3,4 and 10 (and sometimes also in chromosome 5), and several pericentromeric C-bands. A NOR-site in chromosome 9 characterized three populations from the northeastern region of Brazil. Interestingly, the P. cuvieri populations located in opposite extremes of the geographic distribution had, as a fixed condition, the presence of NORs in 8q...

The first description of the karyotype of Dasyprocta azarae Lichtenstein, 1823 (Rodentia, Dasyproctidae) from Brazil Mastozool. neotrop.
Souza,Ana L. G.; Corrêa,Margaret M. O.; Pessôa,Leila M..
The karyotype of Dasyprocta azarae has not been described previously. In this article we describe the karyotype of D. azarae from Northern Pantanal, Mato Grosso, Central Brazil. D. azarae has a diploid number 2n=64 and a number of autosomal arms NA=122. The 2n and NA are the same as those reported for other Brazilian species of Dasyprocta, but differ in chromosome morphology. Differences in the sex chromosomes were also found. The Y chromosome is acrocentric whereas in other Dasyprocta species is metacentric or submetacentric. The C-banding pattern coincides with that described for other species, except for pair six, having two bands of heterochromatin. The NOR patterns revealed intraindividual variation, with 1 to 6 NOR chromosomes. In the other species...
